Tungsten Jewlery
tungsten question?

*(I am using tungsten carbide rings i got form a jewlery store). I took the ring out side and with the pointed end of a hammer pounded the crap out of it and it didn’t even scratch. Then i laid it flat on the sidewalk and used the round flat part of the hammer and just started pounding it agian. The first couples hits it did nothing, but it did eventually break. my question is: Q 1: why is it so hard to break
Q 2: why did it shatter and not dent
Q 3: how did it stay shiny
THANKS.
“stay shinny” means it stayed very glossy and did not scratch.
if i had a thicker sample would it break easyier or harder. sorry asking you is WAY CHEAPER then finding out my self. thanks. *thicker means each sample is going to be 1/8 inch thicker then the previous.

Q1 & Q2: Tungsten carbide is a very hard but brittle material. It doesn’t deform well and will tend to shatter before it bends or deforms.

Q3: not sure what you mean by “stay shiny”.
