How can I tell my dad about a navel piercing?
On my birthday, wich is 10 days from now I want to get a navel piercing. I want to keep it a secret for a while but after some time I want to tell my dad about it. But how can I tell him without getting him mad?
I`m 16. My brother also got a piercing at about 16-17 years.
If your mom is taking you to get it done, then tell your dad before you go. Just say “Dad, I wanted you to know that mom and I are going to get my belly button pierced. ” and then explain to him why you are getting it. Don’t sneak around and let him find it by accident or give him time to assume why you want it. Just tell him you think they are very pretty and you are ready to take care of a piercing like this. It won’t affect your future jobs and if you get tired of it, you can always take it out. Dads dont always realize these things.
If dad still doesnt like the idea, just finish with “Well I wanted you to know ahead of time so you understood,” and leave it at that. It doesnt really matter if he doesnt like it, he will remember he’s your daddy and that he loves you no matter what.
If your mom isnt taking you and you’re under 18 (or the legal piercing age wherever you are) then don’t get it done. Any one who will pierce a minor without a parent is not doing quality work and you will be at serious risk. Your piercing could be done incorrectly and worse you risk exposure to hepatitis and all the other nasty pathogens that can live in an unclean studio.
The best way to keep parents from being angry and hurt is to be honest with them up front. Dads don’t like to think their daughters would hide things from them and finding out otherwise is usually more upsetting than whatever was being hidden.
