Do you have to bring your own navel jewelry to the piercer?
I seen on websites that you have to pay extra to get jewelry along with the piercings…not sure if everyone is like that or is it all just one payment. So, is it cheaper if you bring your own jewelry or does it cost extra to buy it from the shop?
Usually, they set their rates like that, such as $30 for a piercing plus the cost of jewelry. This is to take into consideration that certain types of jewelry (such as a straight or curved barbell), or different lengths are needed because people are different shapes and sizes, and the jewelry can be ordered in any precise size that the piercer wants. So your friend might need a 1/2″ barbell, while you need a 7/16″ barbell, and the piercer can charge you differently for them even if it’s the same piercing type. This isn’t done this way to rip you off, since different lengths can cost them more money to buy. If you legitimately feel that they’re trying to rip you off because you get a bad impression of the shop in general, go elsewhere.
Buying jewelry elsewhere and bringing it into the shop to be pierced with is like buying your steak at Walmart and asking a restaurant to cook it for you. Most people aren’t going to want to do it, since they either have no clue what the quality of the material is like, or they know the quality is bad. Even if they are willing to do it (which is a bad idea for them to anyway), it just looks cheap, which isn’t a good impression to leave with someone holding a needle to your body.
So in short, yes it costs more to buy it from the shop than to bring in any old thing from elsewhere, but you can’t bring in your own jewelry anyway so you have to pay the shop’s price. Keep in mind that most reputable shops will only pierce with top quality materials, so the $30 that you pay them for a ring might be more than the $5 ring you saw at Walmart, but the money is worth it because your health is at stake.
