Dr Stuart Devlin wins Lifetime Achievement Award
Dr Stuart Devlin, Fred Rich and Ornella Iannuzzi were among the artists who had most success at the 2009 Craftsmanship and Design Awards. The awards, which are organised by the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council, were presented at a lavish ceremony at Goldsmiths’ Hall in the City of London.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of Stuart Devlin with the Craftsmanship and Design Council’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr Devlin received this award in recognition of his “outstanding contribution and commitment to the craft and industry of silversmithing, jewellery and the Allied Crafts”. Speaking of his work, Dr Devlin has said: “I hope that my work reflects four maxims: 1) That the future is much more important than the past; 2) that creativity is paramount; 3) that skill is fundamental; 4) that the justification for being a goldsmith is to enrich the way people live and work.”
Fred Rich added to his extensive collection of Craft and Design Council Awards by winning the Gold Smiths’ Company Award (along with co-creators Christopher Lawrence and Stan Brettell) for the magnificent Silver, Enamelled Dish and Jug. Fred Rich also won the Gold Award in the Enamellers (Senior) Category, for his Silver 18 and 22ct Gold Enamelled Jug and Dish.
The up and coming jeweller Ornella Iannuzzi also had a very successful time at the awards. As well as winning the Gold and IJL Special Award for her Silver, Iron Pyrites and Gold Leaf Cubic Crystallation Ring (pictured) Ornella was also awarded a GIA Course of Study for the same distinctive ring.
